Do Angels Have Wings?

Most people are familiar with angels through religous art where angels are shown as perfect beings, with flowing robes, beautiful faces, golden hair, halos and wings, but angels are pure spirit and therefore have actual physical form. So where does the idea that angels have wings come from?

Several religious sources list certain angels have wings. Archangel Gabriel who is said to have dictated the Koran to Mohammed was described as having '140 pairs of wings'! In the mystical Jewish text 1 Enoch and 2 Enoch there also descriptions of angels with wings. Many cultures have depicted winged beings, while many myths, legends, statues and even cave paintings still exist of these winged creatures.

Angel Hotline To Heaven

A statue of an angel holding a mobile phone was unveiled earlier this month at St John’s Cathedral in the Dutch city of Hertogenbosch.                             

 The angel is the brainchild of sculptor Ton Mooy, who was commisoned to make a total of 25 new angels statues for the cathedral. The last in the series needed a modern twist, he decided. As well as holding a mobile phone, the carved stone angel is also wearing jeans!

The phone has just one button, the artist says – it directly dials God.

Archangel Raphael - Healing Angel

Guardian Angel Tattoo Saved Teenager's Life

THIS is the tattoo that a teenager who cheated death says saved his life.
Luke Fisher  from Worcestershire, in the UK,  had the guardian angel tattooed on his torso just two days before breaking his neck in three places in a car crash.
Doctors feared he may never walk again. But the 18-year-old  defied their predictions and made a full recovery.
Mr Fisher had the guardian angel tattooed around his chest and back, with the words “only the strong survive” underneath it just two days before the accident.
The teenager was driving his car in March 2010, when the car skidded on wet leaves and he lost control, resulting in him crashing  head-first into a tree flattening the front of the vehicle.
Despite doctors’ warnings that he may never walk again, he left the ITU just four days later.
Following the accident he had to wear a neck brace for three months and then undetake an intensive course of physiotherapy. But he's now doing fine. The tattoo, which took a total of 16 hours to complete and starts on his right hip and goes up his body with one of the angel’s wings covering his chest, and the other going across his back as if embracing him.
He said: “I was meant to be joining the Army, so I had it done before I went. I also do a lot of dangerous sports, so it just seemed like a good thing to have."
Tattoo artist Nick Fletcher, who completed the tattoo, said he had no idea about the accident until about a week later, when Luke walked into the studio and told him about it.
He said: “I couldn’t believe it when Luke came in and told me about the accident.
“It was about four days later and I had no idea anything had happened.
“It was quite spooky really. His friends have now said they want the same thing done because it obviously works, but I’ve said I’ll make the design slightly different.
“It was definitely a lucky charm.”

Deathbed Angel

Marie, from Newcastle sends this touching tale of an angelic encounter she experienced when she was a young nursing student.

Marie writes:
"When I was a student nurse back in the early 1980s, I was responsible for taking care of a middle-aged lady who was dying of leukaemia.                                
She was a lonely soul as her daughters , and her husband rarely visited her (he already had a new woman in his life). One evening, after making my patient comfortable, I glanced out of the window and saw a shadowy figure in the gardens outside. As I tried to look closely, the figure seemed to fade out, becoming unfocused. I put it down to tiredness and dismissed the whole episode.              
As time progressed, and my patient declined toward her end, the figure appeared more and more regularly. I told some colleagues about it and they laughed, saying that I had an over-active imagination. Each day, I would look through the window and if the figure was there, and I would wave a greeting.                                  
One day, arriving on the ward, I went to my patient only to find the bed empty. My lady friend had died in the night and I worried that she was frightened and experienced it alone. Looking through the same window in days to follow, I never did see that figure again. I can take comfort that this strange being was probably my patient's guardian angel who waited to escort her away from this life to a place of peace and happiness. I certainly hope so!"

Mother Takes photo Of 'Angel' In Hospital As Daughter On Life- Support Makes Miraculous Recovery

In December 2008, a mother, whose daughter was fighting for her life, snapped a photograph  in a hospital ward that she believes shows an angel that saved her daughter's life.

Colleen Banton, from Charlotte, North Carolina, was facing the agonising decision of taking her daughter off a life-support machine when the 'miracle' occurred.

14-year-old Chelsea had been admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, but a series of subsequent infections and a collapsed lung left the teenager breathing with the help of a ventilator.

As friends and family gathered to say their final goodbyes, Mrs Banton was alerted to an unusual bright light by a nurse.
'On the monitor, there was this bright light,' she said. 'And I looked at it and I said, "Oh my goodness! It looks like an angel!"'

A first attempt at capturing the image with a digital camera was unsuccessful: 'The first picture wouldn't take,' she said.

The second time she succeeded, and the mother-of-two sought comfort in the image while her daughter's oxygen mask was removed.

Both family and staff were stunned when Chelsea began breathing for herself.

'When they took the mask off of her, her stats went as high as they've ever been,' said Mrs Banton. 'Her colour was good, and the doctors and nurses were amazed. The nurse practitioner who saw the image in the monitor said, "I've worked here 15 years, and I've never seen anything like it.'''

Two weeks later, the teenager was sent home from hospital, in time for her 15th birthday on Christmas day.

'What was so ironic is it was a rainy day,' Mrs Banton said of her discovery. 'It had been overcast all day. And the sun only came out at that point.'
'If they doubt it, that's fine... But I know what I saw, and the picture's untouched. I didn't make it up. That's just something that I believe.
'I believe that more people have changed since this happened. I know I have. I look at things differently than I used to – because I know God is in control.'

Mrs Banton revealed that she and her older daughter had been 'praying for a miracle' since Chelsea was born five weeks prematurely, and was given 36 hours to live.
'She spent the first four months in a neonatal intensive care unit,' recalled her mother.
Against the odds, Chelsea - who has suffered from pneumonia, hydrocephalus, requiring a shunt in her skull, and life-threatening viruses throughout her childhood - is now at high school.
'I'm learning that every day she's alive is a miracle.' said Mrs Banton.

What Do Angels Look Like?

Many of us think of angels in their traditional form as so often depicted on Christmas cards, Art and film but angels are spiritual rather than physical beings.

Angels are non-demominational, non-racial and non-cultural entities and will appear in any form, height, gender, colour, religion or ethnic background that makes sense to you as the viewer. So, they are unlikely to appear as the beautiful, blue-eyed, blonde haired angel we are led to imagine them to be.  Each of us will see the angel that is most appropriate and acceptable to us.

How an angel appears to someone will depend entirely on their own personal history. So a very religious person may indeed see an angel in their traditionally accepted form i.e. in white robes with feathery wings.

Angels are very adaptable. For one person, an angel might be a feeling of overwhelming peace following the death of a loved one. For someone else an angel may be the Good Samaritian who arrived at the scene of an accident at just the right time to save a person' s life and then cannot be found afterwards. For others, angels may manifest as strange conincidences or dreams, through ordinary people who generously give help when needed, or through anyone or anything that gives them feelings of hope, comfort, and inspiration when they need it most.

Guardian Angel Saves Girl Blessed by Pope

A three-year-old girl blessed by the Pope survived being crushed under the wheels of her father's 22-seater bus in New South Wales and her father thinks a Guardian Angel saved her.

Peter Hill thought he had killed his daughter Claire earlier this year when the four-tonne vehicle rolled on top of her as he queued for petrol on Tuesday. But this morning she was ready to be sent home from hospital with little more than grazes and minor bruising.

Pope Benedict XVI kissed Claire at Randwick in Sydney during a state visit in July 2008. Her father said: "I couldn't think anything other than a guardian angel was holding that bus up and keeping the weight off her."

His wife Sue, a mother-of-11, said she had placed a Catholic symbol around her daughter's neck an hour before the accident.

Angel Nurse

From the US comes the story of a mother who believes her desperately sick son was cured by an angel.          
 In 1998, Luke was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of eight years old. As sometimes happens, he came down with an infection, which meant he had to go to the hospital. He was there for about two weeks, and that's when something remarkable happened.
One evening, Luke's mother was sitting at his bedside quietly praying as he slept. A nurse came into the room to check Luke's temperature, but his mother noted something rather peculiar about her. The nurse was wearing an old-fashioned uniform of the type that would have been common 30 years previously, in the 1960s. The nurse noticed that Luke's mother had a Bible by the side of his bed. She said that she was a Christian, too, and said she would pray for Luke's healing. Luke's family had never seen this odd nurse before nor again in Luke's remaining time in the hospital.
"I came out of the hospital fully healed of my infection," says Luke, who is now 19. More remarkable, he is completely free of cancer. "My mum believes this nurse could have been a guardian angel coming down to give my mum some hope," Luke says. "If she wasn't an angel, why would she be wearing 1960s old-fashioned nurse clothing?"

Can Human Beings be Angels?

We often use the word ‘angel’ to describe a person who has given unconditional help and love to others or someone who puts their own life in danger to rescue another person. We even  use the term to describe children who behave beautifully.

Although the term angel refers to benign being from the world of spirit , and not to a human being, the broadest definition of an angel is to be a messenger of love and goodness, and so in this sense a person can, either consciously or unconsciously, be guided by a higher realm. In short, it’s possible that human beings can do the work of angels and angels can manifest their presence through people, and in this respect people can indeed at times  be human guardian angels.

Is There An Angel of Death?

The expression 'angel of death' is one that is familiar to us all. It often has sinister overtones but there are strong suggestions by people who have had visions of the afterlife, or near death experiences when they hover between life and death, that 'angel of light' would be a far better description.

There are many stories of those who have seen angels before an impending death of someone close.

Teen Says Angel Saved Him

In November 2007, Joshua Kosch, 19,  was hit by a freightrain in downtown Fayetteville in North Carolina,  resulting in him having to have his right leg amputed.  But Joshua says he has an angel to thank for surviving the horrific accident. The accident happened as Josh who was wearing fancy  dress  was walking to A Dickens Holiday, an annual town festival.

He said: "I basically dressed up in the attire appropriate for the Dickens Festival, a Victorian-times style, and was looking forward to taking part"

As he made his way there Joshua had to cross a set of railway tracks. He stood on one set of railroad tracks , while waiting for a southbound train to pass him on the adjoining tracks but failed to hear  the northbound train approaching him.

Although the train had slowed to about 20 mph , the conductor could not stop the 93-car train in time to avoid hitting the youngster.

Joshua said he remembers seeing an angel during the accident.

He said: "He (the angel) told me it wasn't my time "And I couldn't get up. And that's because he held me down."

Following the accident he  spent several weeks in intensive car, recovering from rib fractures, broken vertebrae, a broken arm and punctured lung. His right leg was amputated above his knee.

His mother, Barbara, said seeing her son survive has been a miracle.

She said: "It makes me stronger in my faith, knowing that God was there, right there, when it happened. He had people by his side after the accident happened to hold his hand."

Ann’s True Life Angel Story

In 2001, my 17-year-old son was rushed to hospital with suspected appendicitis. While sitting in a cubicle to go on to the ward with my son who was very scared I called silently on the angels to help him and be with him. I immediately felt a shift in the energy of the room. I could sense (but not see) an angelic being at the bottom of the trolley he was lying on. My son then totally unprompted said ‘there is a huge golden angel at my feet’. He then became very calm and peaceful about his impending operation. The angel stayed with him throughout the night making it easier for me to leave to tend to my other children at home.

Do Angels Have A Distinctive Aroma?

A number of people report a pleasant aroma filling the air, before, during or after an angelic encounter. Often the person involved will be the only one who can smell the aroma, even when they are in a crowded room.  The fragrance of roses, lavender, lilies and other flowers are commonly reported, but equally common is the scent of vanilla or chocolate and the familiar scent of a departed loved one’s perfume or cologne.

Our fascination with angels grows daily. Ordinary people talk openly about how angels have helped them, stories of angelic intervention are common place and inspirational angelic artwork is everywhere. Interest in angels transcends language, cultures and boundaries.

Angels come in all forms, all shapes, and sizes, and all colours. Some are complex and powerful beings, dealing in the secret mysteries that underpin the universe. Our five senses are simply inadequate to experience and describe these miraculous beings of God’s eternal love and light.

Others bring comfort in moments of deep despair. These ‘messenger’ angels have the ability to show up just at the right time. Our guardian angel, although linked with the immense planetary angels, is always with us and will never leave our side. Some angels are inspirational, teaching us through cosmic virtues such as honesty, goodness, humility, purity, beauty and joy. Others seems to be the cheerleaders, gladdening our hearts and guiding us through difficult times.

Why are so many ordinary people inviting angels into their daily lives? Perhaps angels are more popular because people are awakening from the spell of materialism, greed and the ‘Me first’ society that has reigned supreme for many years.

Some people  however think that  more angels are being sent to earth by God to help with the spiritual evolution as we approach the ‘end of the days’ prophesied in the Bible as well as by many ancient cultures. Countless seers and mystics have foretold the coming of this ‘New Age’ when angels shall walk once more with men.

Whatever your belief system about this – angels can only bring hope into your life – so ‘embrace fully their presence’ and ‘other worldly guidance’.

Write to Your Angels

When you have problems, you can write to your angels. Open your heart, don’t hold back your thoughts, and allow your feeling to pour onto the paper. Let go and ask the angels to resolve the problems to your highest good and the good of all. Leave it up to the angels. Don’t try to manipulate the situation. You may be pleasantly surprised at the speed with which the problem is resolved, often in an unexpected way. Angels work in ways in which you would not even dream.

A simple way to purify your thoughts is to write down all your concerns, listing everything that makes you angry or causes you to behave in an unangelic way. Don’t hold anything back, just keep writing: tell your angels what makes you fearful, disillusioned, or disappointed. Unhealthy emotions have a negative effect on healing and health. After you’ve finished; burn the piece of paper. As you do so, feel the cleansing effect on your mind.  And, of course,  the angels will appreciate your efforts to release the negativity and help you work towards restoring calm and balance in your life.

What To Do If You Encouter An Angel

If you're of nervous disposition you may be tempted to run or  take cover if an angel suddenly appears to you, but  one clergyman advises staying firmly put - saying “anyone who is so blessed should stop, look and listen for a message or sign from heaven.”

“Don’t be fooled by alarmists and non-believers: Angels are glorious messengers who approach you for a reason,”the Rev. Walt Tremon, of Tampa, Florida, said in a recent interview

“If you see an angel, if you are addressed by an angel, you must accept God’s divine plan and see with open eyes and hear with open ears.

“I know it’s difficult to believe in this day and age, but God - not mankind, and certainly not the government - is still ‘running the show.’

“You might run, but you certainly can’t hide from the mysterious ways of the Lord.”

John Simmons, of the respected London-based paranormal research group, Scientists and Citizens for Understanding the Unknown, agrees - to a point.

“If you are certain you are in the presence of a benevolent being, by all means, listen to what he or she has to say,” he said “But if you aren’t sure, or if you have a ‘bad feeling’ about the situation, you’d be foolish to remain in such a vulnerable position. I would strongly advise you to run.”

A Beautiful Messenger

  Evelyn Kritenbrink from America shares this true life comforting encounter with what she believes to have been an angel shortly before her mother's passing.

Evelyn writes: "My mother died in the early morning on Christmas Eve 1999. She had suffered from a stroke two weeks previously and remained in a hospital until her death. My sister and I would take shifts watching over her while she was in the hospital. That night she died it was my sister’s turn to come sit with her. Before my sister had arrived I was sitting in the chair and out of nowhere this most magnificent beautiful glowing blue eyed and whitish transparent body came to me. I was stunned and surprised, I had a warm and stable feeling come over me. I didn’t understand why I got this image until shortly after my mothers death. I figured out that this awesome beautiful being was here to tell me my mother was going to die and that Angel was there to take her to a better and happier place, a place she needed to be. "

Angel Sightings Should Not Be Dismissed

Children who believe they have seen angels often keep it quiet for fear of being ridiculed by adults, according to recent research.

Kate Adams, senior lecturer at the Anglican Bishop Grosseteste University College, in Lincoln, said failure to attend to young children’s spiritual needs could leave them feeling “misunderstood” and force many to “retreat into silence".

It comes despite the fact that growing numbers of faith schools being opened across the UK and standards of religious education lessons are improved. More students are also opting to take A-levels in religious studies.

But Dr Adams found that young children were still often reluctant to share their  spiritual experiences. She interviewed 94 children who believed they had had a dream with a "religious connection" but one-third never confided in anyone.

She said teachers had a legal requirement - under the 1988 and 2002 Education Acts - to attend to children's spiritual development.

"By doing this we can show them how important this dimension of their life is and begin to combat the disinterest which can make children feel misunderstood and retreat into silence,” she said

Dr Adams also conducted separate research into children's belief in the "unseen".

A seven-year-girl reported being dismissed by her parents when she told them she saw an angel at her bedside every night, which she felt comforted by.
Dr Adams said such testimonies were a “saddening indictment” of adults' misunderstanding of children. She said: “It shows how communication on matters of personal importance can break down without adults realising it.”

Do You Believe In Angels?

Nearly one in three Britons believe they have a guardian angel watching over them, according to a  survey last year.

Online research for the Bible Society and Christian Research into the views of 1,038 people suggests 31% believe in angels, with 17% unsure.

One in 20 told pollsters ICM  that they thought they had seen or heard an angel, with 29% saying they thought a guardian angel watched over them.

The Bible Society says it indicates that many people have a spiritual need.

Its programme director, Canon Dr Ann Holt, said: "There is plenty of evidence that there are presences in this world beyond the human.

"An angel is God's messenger and the Bible affirms this through the many appearances of angels in different forms."

Church Yard Angel

This beautiful angel is situated in the churchyard of Cookham church, nr Maidenhead, in Berkshire and   was the source of inspiration for a painting by well-know British painter, Sir Stanley Spencer, who specialised in Biblical scences.

The painting known as The Angel was completed in  (1953) and also appears in another of his painting known as Parents Resurrecting (1933)

7 Signs That Angels Are Around You

Angels exist on a different vibrational frequency to humans, and most of us are therefore unable to see them but we can often feel their presence around us.

Angels have a way of making their presence known and it's not necessary to be deeply religious or to have a strong spiritual belief to sense the presence of an angel.

Below are  seven signs that may indicate an angel is close by:

1. The temperature in the room may change. You may feel a sudden rush of warm air or a warm glow surrounding you. You may also get goose bumps or tingling at the back of your neck or head.
2. An intriguing fragrance may appear out of nowhere. It may be an unusual aroma that you have never smelt before, and you will probably not be able to identify it.
3. Different-coloured lights may appear from nowhere. You may see shafts of light streaming down or shooting across the room or you may catch glimpses or sparks of light or notice shadows. Don't be afraid, you will not see an angel appearing until you are ready to, and angels of course have no desire to harm you.
4. You may hear angelic voices trying to communicate to you. If the voice is merely a whisper or is muffled, send a mental message for the angel to speak louder. Do not assume that the angelic voice you are hearing is a product of your imagination.
5. White feathers may suddenly appear in the most unlikely and unexpected of places. This is a sure sign that the angels are with you and are ready to help you achieve your goals in life.
6. Angels may appear to you in your dream state with a solution to a particular problem. By the morning, you will feel more positive and clearer about which direction to take.
7. You may feel as if there is someone in the room with you. As if someone has just brushed past you or you may experience the sensation that a presence is standing behind you perhaps placing a gentle hand on your shoulders.

Often the angels will make their presence very obvious. A common experience is when you are in a bookshop or a library perhaps unconsciously looking for guidance and suddenly a book will fly off a shelf and drop at your feet.

This is angels at work, trust in them and you will receive more signs.
